Padua: a journey into art and beauty

Padua: a journey into art and beauty

Padua is one of the must-see stops for those who want to get to know the Veneto region.

The city jealously preserves the traces of its glorious past that saw it play a leading role, particularly around the 14th century, as one of the most important cultural capitals.

Padua is also famous for being home to one of the most famous universities in Italy, which we invite you to visit along with many other wonders such as the 25 kilometers of porticos within the city's perimeter characterized by frescoes, effigies and friezes.

What you absolutely cannot miss about this magnificent city is:

Giotto and the fresco cycle of the fourteenth century

Padua Urbs Picta, a Unesco World Heritage Site from summer 2021, is undoubtedly the city's most prestigious boast. The route along 8 different sites, divided into four components: Scrovegni and Eremitani, Palazzo della Ragione, Reggia, Battistero and their squares, Cittadella antoniana and Oratorio di San Michele. Giotto, Guariento, Giusto de' Menabuoi, Altichiero da Zevio, Jacopo Avanzi and Jacopo da Verona are the artists who wisely dedicated their art to this city.

Botanical Garden of the University of Padua

The Botanical Garden of Padua established in 1545 is the oldest university botanical garden in the world. Despite the passage of years, the garden has perfectly maintained its original location and most of the features of the 16th-century layout. Since 1997 this place has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

A new area of the Botanical Garden called the Biodiversity Garden has been open since 2014: five greenhouses offering a journey through five different biomes. The Biodiversity Garden takes you on a discovery of plants from the tropical rainforest, temperate, Mediterranean, and arid areas. The entire Botanical Garden complex is now home to more than 3,500 species and many historic trees: first and foremost the St. Peter's Palm, planted in 1585.

Basilica of St. Anthony

The patron saint of the city of Padua is St. Anthony also referred to as the "Nameless Saint": venerated around the world, he unites pilgrims annually for prayer at the Saint's Ark or in the shade of the cloisters of the convent. It is possible to retrace the entire route, "the Last Walk," taken by the Saint in June 1231. The route extends from the Antonian Sanctuaries in Camposampiero to the Basilica del Santo in Padua, passing through the place where the Saint died on June 13, the Antonian Sanctuary of Arcella.
