Treviso: ideal destination for an excursion full of art and romantic sights

Treviso offers its visitors a vast choice of enchanting experiences and places: historic palaces overlooking waterways, romantic canals, elegant piazzas, relaxing riverside walks, and world-famous food and wine treasures such as radicchio and prosecco.

Want some tips for your trip to Treviso? Try visiting one of these places:

Lords' Square

To visit the center of Treviso, the Piazza dei Signori is the ideal starting point. This place represents the typical Italian piazza-salon rich in history and always busy at any time of the day. The most representative building in the square is the Palazzo del Podestà, a beautiful medieval red-brick building that currently houses the Prefecture. Behind the palace soars into the sky the Civic Tower with its clock, one of the symbols of Treviso. It is as high as 48 meters with a square shape and characterized by battlements at the top.

Palace of the Three Hundred

Adjacent to the Palazzo del Podestà stands the Palazzo dei Trecento, a historic building that borders Piazza dei Signori from Piazza Indipendenza. It was built between 1185 and 1268 for the purpose of hosting the most important assemblies of municipal bodies. This building was named after the number of members who participated in the municipal councils. The first floor consists of a loggia while the upper floor houses a large hall illuminated through splendid three-mullioned windows and frescoed with works by Venetian artists dating between the 14th and 16th centuries. Palazzo dei Trecento is now used to host exhibitions and performances and can only be visited during these events.

Knights' Lodge

The Loggia dei Cavalieri is located a very short distance from the Palazzo dei Trecento. Much like a covered square with a quadrangular shape it is enclosed through arcades on three sides. Smaller and less majestic than the loggia of the Palazzo dei Trecento, however, it has such great historical importance for Treviso that it is considered a symbol and one of the city's most important monuments. The loggia, in fact, was built in the Middle Ages at the precise point where the city's main arteries met: the cardo and decumanus.

Calmaggiore

This is definitely the main street of Treviso. It connects Piazza dei Signori to the Duomo: the two key points of power in medieval times, the piazza the seat of spiritual power, the Duomo the seat of spiritual power. This street, which retraces the cardo maggiore of Roman times, borders arcaded palaces and is the shopping street par excellence.

Buranelli

Behind the central Piazza dei Signori, enclosed between the canal of the same name and the Cagnan Canal, the Buranelli area begins. This charming area is characterized by small bridges, mills and historic houses overlooking the canals and the characteristic weeping willows. It is undoubtedly the most characteristic and most photographed area of the city, where every corner offers a romantic and unrepeatable glimpse. The name Buranelli comes from the fact that in the past this place was used as dwellings and warehouses for the merchants of the island of Burano.

House of the Carraresi

Famous throughout the world, this historic building dates back to the 13th century and today has been converted into a modern multi-purpose cultural space. The works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century artists such as the Impressionists or Van Gogh have been exhibited here, as well as original exhibitions on oriental art and other themes. Currently it also houses a bookstore and a restaurant with wine and typical food tasting space and is experienced as a real "cultural home" by the people of Treviso.

A romantic stay in our B&B can be considered perfect if it is accompanied by a visit to one of Veneto's delightful cities.
