The Villa today is a private residence listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is open to the public from April to October. This magnificent mansion is the work of Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio for Nicolò and Alvise Foscari.
The Villa is an ideal representation of Palladio's architectural lines: symmetrical, it stands on three floors so as to distinguish, ideally, the various activities of life at the time. The ground floor was used for functional activities, the second floor for "noble" activities, and the third floor was dedicated to the storage of agricultural commodities. The interior frescoes also reflect this division; in fact, only the walls and ceilings of the main floor are decorated.
